A trip to Grenada

Day Two

Morning, a Trip into Town, and More Pina Coladas

After sleeping in and lunch (it was too late for breakfast) at the hotel restaurant, we spent some time lounging on the beach. Yvonne went for a swim. Susan and I went in the water for a bit, but spent our time mostly on the beach. A little later, our rental car (the Toyota) was delivered and Yvonne and I got our temporary Grenada driver's licenses.

Later that day, we drove around the area and then into St. George's, where we parked, and were immediately approached by one of the waterfront area's unofficial "guides", a fellow who called himself Tony Macaroni. He walked us around town, through the market, and talked about the town's history. As we walked, people would hail him "Hey Macaroni!". It was quite amusing. The town was quaint, and much of it had sidewalks, unlike the rest of the island, as well as substantial traffic.

We had dinner at a restaurant called "Brown Sugar" that we chose for its Tuesday night steel drum music. Unfortunately, while the music was good, the food was mediocre and quite pricey. We again had island fare, various kinds of seafood, things flavored with nutmeg, and of course, pina coladas.

That night, we again visited the game room. My ping-pong game was improving, but even so, Susan beat both Yvonne and I every game. Susan retired for the evening and Yvonne and I played a few more games, before checking our email (Yvonne insisted! Really. And while we had time paid for on the hotel's system, I figured I might as well check mine too!) and then she and I also returned to the suite.

Today was also Susan's birthday. I can't think of many better places to get older than a tropical island in the Caribbean.
